Job Title: Activity Aide
Program: Daybreak Program
Responsible to: Daybreak Program Coordinator
Description:
Daybreak volunteers help provide stimulating and enjoyable activities for individuals with Alzheimer’s Disease or related dementia while providing a much needed respite/”time-away” for the caregiver. Volunteers bring extra energy, ideas, and motivation to the program as well as offering warmth and support to program participants.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. To assist participants in all activities as well as be actively involved in the program.
2. To provide supervision of participants during activities, free time, and mealtime.
3. To follow safety policies and procedures.
4. To offer reassurance and companionship to the participants.
5. To work one-on one with an individual or in groups.
6. To contribute suggestions and ideas to the staff.
7. To keep lines of communication open between staff, families, and the community.
8. To help organize birthday parties, holiday celebrations, and other special events.
9. Volunteers with special skills can share them with the participants. These special skills may include music, gardening, and arts and crafts.
Note: Volunteers who do not wish to work directly with volunteers can help by
answering phones, typing letters, preparing mailings, fundraising, public
presentations, designing flyers and notices, or any number of other tasks.
Qualifications:
1. Patient, fun loving, enjoy working with others.
2. Willing to take the time to care for and to share with a person who has Alzheimer’s or related dementia.
3. Be willing to learn the challenges facing the person with Alzheimers or related dementia and their families.
