Soup helps feed meal programs

Ten restaurants from throughout western Kenosha County ladled out their best bowls of soup Tuesday afternoon in the Bowls ‘n’ Bakers fund-raiser for Meals on Wheels and the Westosha Community Center at Bristol Oaks Country Club in Bristol.
For a $10 donation, attendees could sample 20 different soups and vote for their favorite. Baked goods made by Meals on Wheels volunteers and craft items also were on sale. Attendees were able to vote on their favorite soup.
Taking first place was 75th Street Inn with chicken pot pie soup. Second place went to Whispering Oaks with turkey and wild rice soup. Third place went to Cross Roads ’ chicken tortellini soup.
The event drew about 225 people and raised about $3,500, including ticket sales and other donations. This was the second year for the event, which drew 85 more people than last year.
The event was sponsored by Home Instead Senior Care and PATS Services. More than 20 other western Kenosha County businesses also supported the event.
