Volunteer Job Description

Job Title:                         Hot Meal Deliverer

 

Program:                         Meals on Wheels

 

Responsible to:               Volunteer Coordinator

 

Description:                    

 

Deliver meals to list of clients as provided and as scheduled.  Meals on Wheels staff or an experienced volunteer will always accompany a new volunteer on their first time out on the route.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:               

 

1.  Pickup 1 hotbox, 1 cold box and notebook of clients with instructions at the assigned provider.

2. Deliver hot tray and cold bag meal to each client, following directions in the notebook.

3.  Exchange a few words with each client confirming that they are in their "normal" condition and all is well there for the day.  Remember to smile.

4. If the client does not answer the door, or is obviously not at home, attach blue

     tag to doorknob.  Please return the meal to the provider and call the office as soon as possible.  Do not leave the meal and do not tell only the provider.  They may not pass the word to Meals on Wheels office.

5.  Fill in the information on the last sheet in the notebook, recording your name, miles driven, distance from home (one way) and number of meals served.

6.  Keep all information concerning clients CONFIDENTIAL.

7.  If unable to deliver on a scheduled day, notify the Meals on Wheels Volunteer Coordinator as early as possible.  A volunteer substitute driver will then deliver the route designated for that day, and advise the Meals on Wheels Volunteer Coordinator of anything that they anticipate is "out of the ordinary."

 

Qualifications:

 

1.   Valid Driver's License, dependable car and auto insurance.

2.   Interest in helping homebound elderly and disabled persons.

3.   Respect for client's privacy and concern for their welfare.
