The purpose of the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) of Kenosha County is to provide a variety of opportunities for individuals aged 55 or older to participate more completely in the life of their community through significant volunteer service.
Our goal is to promote the utilization of older persons as community resources through volunteering their services to organizations with specific need that, when met, will have a positive impact on the community.
Here are just a few of the volunteer opportunities
available through RSVP:
* School Tutor
* Driver for medical, social, nutrition appointments, grocery shopping
* In-home projects (sewing, knitting, crocheting, etc.)
* Special events
* Bulk mailings
* Friendly visitor
* Driver Escort Service
* Reader for visually impaired persons
* Clerical volunteer
* Crafts demonstrator in local schools
* Mentors for children
* Peer counseling
* Nursing homes, hospitals (various assignments)
* Literacy tutor
* Libraries, Historical Centers
* Helper at meal program for homeless persons
* Phone companion to homebound person
Training is provided as needed. Generally, volunteers do no need to have profession experience. All volunteers are valuable because of their willingness to meet needs.
What is your time commitment?
You decide how often and how long you wish to volunteer. The program has no minimum number of hours to serve within a year. However, you should report any and all volunteer hours to the RSVP office whether your assignments are weekly, monthly, seasonal or annual.
You are free to leave the program at any time for any reason and, if you decide to return to active status, you can be easily reinstated by contacting the RSVP office.
How much/How often to volunteer?
* Enjoy weekly or monthly assignments doing what you choose
according to your interest and availability.
* If you are already volunteering when you join RSVP, add at least
one new volunteer opportunity.
* Special events volunteering.
* Volunteer for a seasonal program or annual project.
* Be on-call to assist as agency needs arise.
Retired and Senior Volunteer Program members receive:

* Volunteer placement and follow-up
* Help finding a new or additional assignments
* Supplemental accident ,liability, and auto insurance
* Quarterly newsletter
* Updates on current volunteer opportunities
* Information about services for seniors
* Recognition
Rights of an RSVP Volunteer
* Suitable, meaningful assignment

* Recognition and appreciation
* Treatment as a co-worker with respect
* Professional supervision
* Clear Job description
* Full information about RSVP’s procedures & policies
* Adequate, pleasant work space
* Advocacy by RSVP on behalf of RSVP Volunteers
* Representation on the RSVP Advisory Council
* Change or additional assignments
