Responsible to: Transportation Coordinator
Description:
Volunteer Transportation Service drivers will provide rides and escort service to frail elderly and disabled persons utilizing their own vehicle or a vehicle provided by MOW. Volunteers will inform Transportation Coordinator of hours they are available to drive and Coordinator will schedule trips as needed.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. To provide transportation services using volunteer's own vehicle at least once a month.
2. To provide physical assistance between passenger's residence and the vehicle and other assistance that may be required during trip.
3. To observe all traffic laws when transporting passengers including use of seat belts at all times while in vehicle.
4. To assist with shopping, banking, making purchases, carrying packages and/or assisting with unpacking, reading labels, signs, or instructions.
5. When necessary, assisting service recipients in using alternative transportation services such as Care-A-Van and/or City Transit.
6. To commit to a "round trip" when scheduled, going to and from service recipient's destination.
7. To receive fares from passengers and submit fares received to the Transportation Coordinator at the end of each month along with mileage forms for reimbursement request.
8. To complete and supplement required training through attendance at In-Services.
9. To attend regular support group meetings.
Qualifications:
1. Safe driving record.
2. Valid Driver's License, dependable car, & automobile insurance coverage.
3. Interest in helping frail elderly and disabled persons.
