The Teen Parent program provides support to young parents. Parents receive regular home visits and access to staff members. Staff can assist with questions and provide information and guidance through key aspects of pre and post birth care. Topics such as the importance of attending well-baby medical visits and the risks of co-sleeping are covered. Important child care skills are discussed, including diapering, bathing, and feeding.
Using the Protective Factors Framework developed by the Center for the Study of Social Policy, parent are able to improve skills supporting the growth and development of both the child and the parent. Parents learn the importance of:
- Social and emotional competence of children
- Knowledge of parenting and child development
- Social connections
- Parental resilience
- Concrete support in times of need
