AmeriCorp Seniors Foster Grandparent Program (FGP) is an opportunity to make a difference in a child’s life. Help guide students to higher academic achievement by: Mentoring children who need a little extra guidance while helping to build reading and writing skills. The Foster Grandparent program helps connects role models like you with young people with exceptional needs.

Enrich your life while enriching the lives of others. AmeriCorps Seniors FGP volunteers who serve in the Foster Grandparent program provide the kind of comfort and love that sets a child on a path to a successful future. AmeriCorps Seniors FGP volunteers themselves report better health and longevity having served their community.

Program Activities:

·   Reading to children one on one or in small groups.

·   Mentoring children through some of life’s challenges.

·   Helping to build a strong foundation for reading and writing skills.    

·   Support positive social and emotional development.

· The Foster Grandparent program offers modest tax free stipend, and mileage reimbursement to eligible volunteers. 

· Other benefits include trainings, senior service support opportunities, paid time off and annual recognition events.

 

Locations Offered: Kenosha and Racine County

 

Hours: Each schedule is unique but falls within a Monday through Friday 8:00am to 3:00pm time period, with as little as a 5 hour per week commitment.
