Support Will Help Expand Services and Reach More Seniors in Kenosha County

Kenosha Area Family and Aging Services, Inc. (KAFASI) is proud to join Meals on Wheels America in its national End the Wait™ campaign, aimed at addressing the growing crisis of senior hunger and isolation. Across the country, millions of older adults are waiting—waiting for a nutritious meal, a friendly visit, and the essential support they need to maintain their independence.

For decades, Meals on Wheels programs have been a proven and effective solution to combat senior hunger and social isolation. However, federal funding has not kept pace with the increasing needs of the senior population or the rising costs of food and operations. Locally, KAFASI’s Meals on Wheels program has seen a 20% increase in demand over the past year, highlighting the urgent need for expanded support.

“In the last year alone, we have provided over 101,864 meals to Kenosha County seniors, yet the need continues to rise,” said Ron Tatum, Executive Director of KAFASI. “We are grateful for the generosity of our community, but without additional funding and volunteers, many of our older adults may go without the meals and social connection they rely on. We can’t let them wait any longer.”

Why We Can’t Afford to Wait

Despite the dedicated efforts of KAFASI and Meals on Wheels programs nationwide, too many seniors still struggle to access regular, nutritious meals. Nationally, only 1% of all philanthropic donations go toward senior causes, leaving community-based providers like KAFASI underfunded and unable to meet the full extent of the demand.

“Across the country, local Meals on Wheels providers are working tirelessly to deliver seniors nutritious meals and moments of connection,” said Ellie Hollander, President and CEO of Meals on Wheels America. “But they could be reaching even more seniors and doing even more for them if they had additional resources. That’s why Meals on Wheels America launched a bold plan to End the Wait™ and ensure all seniors have access to the life-saving services they need to live nourished lives with independence and dignity.”

How You Can Help

KAFASI invites the community to take action and be part of the solution. There are three powerful ways to make a difference:

Deliver Meals

A hot meal and a friendly visit can brighten a senior’s day. Volunteer just one lunch hour during KAFASI’s March for Meals (March 17-21) and be part of an impactful, community-driven movement.

Donate to Support Seniors in Kenosha

Your donation helps us serve more seniors in need, ensuring they receive nutritious meals and essential companionship.

Advocate for Change
