Home Repair Program

Making Homes Safe for Aging in Place

Description

The KAFASI Senior Home Repair Program provides volunteer assistance to homeowners seeking to remain in their homes as long as possible. As we age, it can become difficult to do even the smallest maintenance or repair on our beloved homes. Partnering with Habitat for Humanity of Kenosha, the Senior Home Repair program can complete any repairs which present a safety hazard to the home. We can install grab bars, porch rails, fix loose floor boards, do small plumbing repairs such as replacing washers or faucets, and weatherization and caulking projects too.

Benefits

Senior homeowners have worked hard for their homes and many would rather stay in them as they age. Sometimes limited mobility or limited income results in those homes falling into disrepair, creating unsafe conditions for living. People requesting Senior Home Repair program services can get those minor repairs taken care of at no cost to the homeowner and, when volunteers are available, we can also offer lawn care and snow removal. (availability of seasonal services is limited and only if we have volunteers)

Location

The Senior Home Repair Program is available throughout Kenosha County.

Eligibility Requirements

Interested in services? You must be 60 years or old, own the home and have repairs that qualify as safety hazards. Our skilled team of repair assessors will come to you to determine the safety issue.

COST

For minor repairs there is no cost. We supply the materials and volunteer labor. Larger repairs may require at least a partial payment for materials or labor. If the intended repair is too large or requires special skills, we will do our best to refer you to a reliable contractor at your cost.

Repairs are done according to available funding and are prioritized by need. We currently have limited funding so you may have to be placed on a waiting list.
