A Heartfelt March for Meals Thank You from KAFASI

Kenosha County witnessed the power of community through the #SaveLunch Campaign, aimed at supporting Senior Nutrition across the county. The Kenosha Area Family and Aging Services (KAFASI) proudly led this initiative, part of a national movement to strengthen the Meals on Wheels network, which delivered over 125,000 meals to our seniors last year. As our population ages, the demand for such essential services grows, especially among seniors facing fixed incomes and rising living costs.

Our campaign, running from March 19th to 22nd, was graced by the active participation of dignitaries and community leaders, including members of Tony Evers’ Cabinet with Kirsten Johnson, engaging in meal deliveries and interactions with our seniors. The week was further highlighted by several proclamations: a City of Kenosha Mayor Proclamation on Tuesday, followed by a Kenosha County Executive Proclamation on Wednesday, and topped off with a Governor’s Proclamation, each endorsing the importance of our cause.

The success of the #SaveLunch Campaign was significantly boosted by the collaboration with a wide range of local organizations committed to our community’s welfare. We extend our deepest gratitude to the Boys & Girls Club of Kenosha, Building Our Future, City of Kenosha, Dooley & Associates, Habitat for Humanity of Kenosha, Home Helpers Burlington, Kenosha Achievement Center, Kenosha Area Business Alliance, Kenosha Community Foundation, Kenosha Community Health Center/Pillar Health, Kenosha County, Kenosha Police Department, Kenosha Unified School District, Library Terrace Assisted Living, Mayoral Candidates David Bogdala and Lydia Spottswood, Shalom Center, Snap-On, Society’s Assets Inc, Southeastern WI Regional Planning Commission, and the United Way of Kenosha County. Their involvement exemplifies a unified community response to the needs of our cherished senior population.

The impact of this collaboration was palpable, with 77% of Meals on Wheels beneficiaries reporting improved health, 85% feeling more secure at home, and an overwhelming 92% affirming the program’s role in maintaining their independence. The sentiments of one Kenosha recipient resonated deeply, “Without Meals on Wheels, my home would no longer be my sanctuary,” capturing the essence of the support and comfort provided by this vital service.

As we look ahead, the journey continues, and your involvement remains crucial. Whether through volunteering or donations, your contribution is vital to our ongoing mission. Join us in making a difference:

Together, we can ensure that no senior in Kenosha County faces hunger alone. Thank you for your unwavering support, your commitment, and your heart.
